RIPLEY
-- Arts at the Alpine, Inc. will be
presenting a night of traditional Latin
music with Duo Divertido on Feb. 15 at the
Alpine Theatre.
Duo Divertido is
comprised of Beth Segessenman and Eduardo
Canelon. Canelon, who is originally from
Venezuela, plays the guitar and cuatro, a
traditional four-stringed Venezuelan
instrument. In addition to performing
traditional and familiar Latin tunes,
Canelon also composes original music.
Segessenman is a flutist. A Pennsylvania
native, Segessenman is a graduate of WVU and
is a recipient of a Performance Grant Award.
The pair also perform as part of Comparsa, a
Charleston-based, acoustic world beat
ensemble.
Duo Divertido
blends the exotic sounds of the flute and
the classical guitar to create a unique
musical experience. Among the songs the two
perform are ŕŕGirl from Ipanema, Caprice,
All Blues and Romance. This is wonderful
opportunity for couples to enjoy a night of
Latin music which is known to be a bit spicy
for Valentines Day, said Jeremiah Gregorich,
Arts vice president. We hope people will
take advantage of the opportunity to see
such talented musicians right here in
Ripley.
Duo Divertido
has performed at venues and events around
West Virginia, including Taylor Books,
Lighthouse Cafe, The Bluegrass Kitchen, The
River Car in Bowden and El Gran Sabor in
Elkins. Tickets are $10 and are available in
advance at Cornerstone Coffee Company and
Rachelás Relics. Tickets will also be
available at the door. The show is scheduled
to begin at 7:30 p.m. For more information,
